NAIROBI, Kenya — In a conversation that underscored Kenya’s growing role in global peacekeeping, President William Ruto spoke with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to discuss Kenya’s leadership of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti. The call, reported by Kenyan media today, highlighted the importance of strengthening Kenya-U.S. collaboration on peace and security matters.

Ruto’s call to Trump served to both congratulate the incoming U.S. leader and emphasize Kenya’s commitment to restoring stability in Haiti, a Caribbean nation beset by gang violence and political unrest. Kenya has taken a leading role in the MSS mission, working in coordination with the United Nations to bolster security in Haiti. During the discussion, Ruto described Kenya’s efforts to disarm gangs, restore order, and offer much-needed humanitarian support alongside Haitian National Police forces.

Trump expressed interest in the initiative and recognized Kenya’s contributions to international peacekeeping. Both leaders discussed potential areas of collaboration to further bolster Haiti’s recovery, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting global stability. Ruto’s invitation to deepen U.S. support in the ongoing mission exemplifies Kenya’s intent to foster strong international partnerships.

The topic of Kenya’s leadership in Haiti was also raised during a separate call between Ruto and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Blinken praised Kenya’s dedication and noted that the MSS forces’ work is essential to addressing Haiti’s security crisis. The discussions also touched upon broader peacekeeping efforts led by Kenya, such as its initiatives in South Sudan and regional stability measures.

As Kenya’s role in Haiti’s security mission continues to evolve, Ruto’s diplomatic engagement with U.S. leaders underscores the importance of collaborative international efforts in addressing complex global challenges. The conversations reinforce Kenya’s position as a key partner in promoting peace and stability beyond its borders.
