Pras Michel, a founding member of The Fugees, filed a lawsuit in federal court against fellow bandmate Lauryn Hill, accusing her of fraud and breach of contract related to their 2023 reunion tour. The lawsuit, submitted Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, centers on allegations that Hill mismanaged the tour and unfairly profited at Michel’s expense.

According to the complaint, Michel claims Hill violated a mutual agreement to equally divide tour profits among the group’s members. Instead, Hill allegedly secured 40% of the tour’s earnings for herself, leaving Michel with far less than his expected share. Michel also accuses Hill of taking advantage of his financial difficulties, as he was dealing with legal issues related to his 2023 conviction for conspiracy and other charges.

The lawsuit further alleges that Hill’s delays in finalizing tour details led to the cancellation of planned 2024 tour dates, citing “gross mismanagement” that hindered marketing efforts and contributed to low ticket sales. Michel also claims Hill rejected a lucrative offer to perform at Coachella without informing him, blaming her decision on objections to the festival’s headlining order.

Hill has not publicly responded to the lawsuit, though her representatives have previously defended her professional conduct, stating she has acted with “integrity and transparency.”

Michel’s legal battles, including his conviction on charges tied to international lobbying, continue to weigh heavily as he faces up to 20 years in prison.
