The New York Police Department (NYPD) has released new surveillance images of the suspect in the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, shedding further light on the investigation into the shocking Midtown Manhattan murder.
Key evidence discovered in Central Park
On Friday, police recovered a backpack in Central Park believed to belong to the suspect. Inside, investigators found unusual items, including fake Monopoly money and a Tommy Hilfiger jacket. The backpack itself, an Everyday Backpack by Peak Design, is a model marketed for photographers but popular among casual users. Reports indicate it may have been purchased between 2016 and 2019.
The discovery adds a puzzling element to the case, though authorities have not disclosed how these items may relate to the crime.
New images of the suspect
On Saturday, the NYPD released two new photos captured from surveillance footage:
- The first image shows the suspect peering through a window divider into a security camera inside a New York City taxi. The individual is wearing a blue medical mask, partially obscuring their face while leaving their eyes and brows visible.
- The second image captures the suspect walking down a city sidewalk, with a white medical mask covering most of their face.
Police believe the suspect may have left New York City but have not publicly identified the individual.
Background of the case
