Former Haitian First Lady Martine Moïse has once again called for justice in the case of her late husband, Jovenel Moïse, who was assassinated on July 7, 2021. In a public message addressed to former U.S. President Donald Trump, she highlighted the challenges her husband faced while in office and urged the United States to release classified documents related to his killing.
In her statement, Martine Moïse drew comparisons between Jovenel Moïse and Trump, stating that both leaders had pursued economic reforms aimed at curbing corruption. She claimed her husband was targeted through a coordinated campaign of defamation and ultimately fell victim to a fatal attack. Unlike Trump, she pointed out, Jovenel Moïse did not survive the attempts against him.
Martine Moïse, who survived the attack that killed her husband, said she has since been the target of three additional assassination attempts. She expressed frustration over the current state of affairs in Haiti, claiming that those responsible for Jovenel Moïse’s assassination now control the country’s executive and judicial branches.
She also condemned the growing power of gangs in Haiti, describing them as a force that continues to destabilize the nation. According to her, restoring constitutional order is essential to overcoming these challenges.
In her message, she urged the U.S. government to declassify all FBI and State Department documents linked to her husband’s assassination, arguing that transparency is key to justice. She also advocated for the appointment of a new Prime Minister, as outlined in Haiti’s constitution, to restore order, dismantle armed groups, and prepare for democratic elections.
Martine Moïse’s statement comes amid ongoing uncertainty in Haiti, where violence and political instability continue to grip the nation. Her appeal underscores the broader demand for justice, stability, and a return to constitutional governance.
