A team of five Haitian teenagers has brought international recognition to their country by winning two awards at the 2024 First Global Challenge, held in Athens, Greece, from September 26 to 29. Representing Haiti, the team excelled in the prestigious robotics competition, which drew participants from 194 countries, and focused on the theme “Feeding the Future.”
The Haitian team, comprised of captain Marlly Scutt, Sterly Faïcka Nicolas, Djolanda Jean-Pierre, John Kely Stanley Pierre, and Roosevelt Marseillant, was honored with the bronze Al-Khwarizmi Award and the Social Media Challenge Award. Their innovative project, which focused on converting leaves into protein concentrates, presented a sustainable solution to address hunger, aligning with the competition’s global objective. Their creativity and technical skills earned them a place among the top ten finalists.
Under the mentorship of Jameson Léo and Jovany Florvil, the team demonstrated impressive engineering and programming abilities, successfully building and operating a robot that stood out among the international competitors. Their work exemplified Haiti’s growing talent in technology and robotics.
