PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (Haiti Wire) — Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé announced new actions to address Haiti’s worsening violence and provide relief to those affected. During a press conference on December 12, 2024, he outlined plans to strengthen security forces, assist displaced families, and focus on long-term national stability.

The Prime Minister revealed that police officers would receive doubled prepaid allowances as recognition for their dedication. Civilian employees of the Haitian National Police (PNH) will also see a 50% increase in their pay. To expand their operational capacity, the PNH and Haitian Armed Forces will receive additional funding and technical support.

Fils-Aimé emphasized that tackling insecurity requires collaboration between the government, law enforcement, and the public. He urged communities to work with security forces while ensuring those responsible for recent violent attacks, including massacres in Wharf-Jérémie and Petite-Rivière de l’Artibonite, are held accountable.

Acknowledging the humanitarian crisis, the Prime Minister committed to helping internally displaced families and those repatriated from the Dominican Republic and other countries. This initiative aims to address the immediate needs of those forced to flee violence or economic instability.

The government plans to prioritize economic recovery, constitutional reform, and fair elections. Fils-Aimé said these measures are critical to restoring stability and rebuilding trust in public institutions. The elections, he noted, must be transparent and conducted in a peaceful environment.

The Prime Minister extended his condolences to families impacted by the violence and promised decisive action to improve security. Although he did not take questions from the press, he assured the nation of the government’s commitment to reestablishing order and creating a safer future for Haiti.
