(Haiti Wire) – Haiti’s senior men’s football team has retained its 86th position in the latest FIFA World Ranking, with a total of 1,287.95 points. The update places Haiti ahead of Zambia and Angola but trailing El Salvador, Gabon, and Angola.
In the Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) rankings, Haiti also remains steady in eighth place.
The lack of movement in the rankings comes as a disappointment following a strong 2024 season for the national team, known as the Grenadiers. November brought two victories in as many matches, sparking hope that Haiti might climb a few spots in FIFA’s global list. Despite this success, no changes materialized.
Globally, the top five nations in FIFA’s rankings remain unchanged, with Argentina holding onto the lead, followed by France, Spain, England, and Brazil. Niger recorded the most significant improvement this period, jumping nine places—a testament to their recent strong performances.
Within CONCACAF, Haiti’s position reflects its standing as a competitive but not dominant force in the region. The eighth spot places the team behind regional powerhouses like the United States, Mexico, and Canada but ahead of several smaller nations.
Haiti’s current standing could face a setback with FIFA’s next ranking update in mid-December. Unlike other nations that are scheduled to play matches before the year ends, the Grenadiers, under head coach Sébastien Migné, have no games lined up. This inactivity could allow other teams to surpass Haiti in points.
While the FIFA ranking reflects stability rather than progress, Haiti’s 2024 campaign is widely seen as a success. The Grenadiers showcased resilience and skill in key fixtures, which many hope will lay the groundwork for greater achievements in 2025.
Observers note that continued investment in player development, better preparation for international tournaments, and consistent results against higher-ranked teams are essential for Haiti to rise in future rankings.
