The Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) has alerted the Haitian public and healthcare professionals about a counterfeit and falsely labeled tetanus antitoxin currently in circulation across the country.

In an official notice published on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the ministry warned that this fake medicine poses a serious health risk and should not be used under any circumstances.

According to the MSPP, the counterfeit “Tetanus Antitoxin” is packaged in a transparent vial with a white labelfeaturing red printed letters. The primary packaging is in English and carries a batch number “E-634” that has no traceability in Haiti. The expiration date is marked as 06/2027 on the 1 ml and 2 ml ampoules.

Health authorities emphasize that this fake antitoxin is not only ineffective but also poses severe health risks, potentially endangering the lives of those who use it.

The MSPP has strictly prohibited the purchase, sale, distribution, and use of this counterfeit product in Haiti. The ministry is urging the population, particularly healthcare professionals, to remain vigilant and ensure that only genuine medical products are administered.

Additionally, all healthcare workers are instructed to report any pharmacovigilance-related incidents to their respective health directorates for immediate action.

The circulation of counterfeit medicines is a serious public health threat in Haiti, where access to quality healthcare is already a challenge. The MSPP’s warning aims to prevent potential medical complications and safeguard the well-being of citizens.

The public is advised to verify medical products before use and report any suspicious medicines to health authorities.
