In a recent escalation of violence, the Haitian criminal gang “Gran Grif” launched an attack on Liancourt, a community in the Artibonite department, resulting in two deaths, several homes burned, and the theft of 60 head of cattle. This incident occurred just two days after the Haitian National Police (PNH) announced they had regained control of the area.

According to local media outlet Haiti Info Project, the assault targeted the fourth section of Savan Boule in the early hours of Wednesday. Witnesses reported that despite previous significant losses, the gang resumed its activities, undeterred by ongoing large-scale operations by both police and military forces aimed at restoring order in the region.

The resurgence of gang violence in Liancourt underscores the persistent challenges faced by Haitian authorities in maintaining security and protecting civilians. The PNH’s recent efforts to reclaim control highlight the complexities involved in countering entrenched criminal organizations like Gran Grif, which has been implicated in numerous violent incidents, including a devastating attack in Pont-Sondé last month that left at least 70 people dead.

This latest attack not only exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in Haiti but also raises concerns about the effectiveness of current security measures. The international community continues to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing the need for comprehensive strategies to address the root causes of gang violence and to support the Haitian government’s efforts in restoring peace and stability.
