French-Haitian artist Gaëlle Choisne has won the 2024 Prix Marcel Duchamp, France’s most prestigious contemporary art award. The 39-year-old artist was recognized for her installation L’Ère du Verseau (The Age of Aquarius), which is currently on display at the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
Choisne’s work, which often explores connections between personal and universal themes, incorporates video projections, cork-based structures, and large painted panels. Her installation is part of an exhibition that includes works by fellow nominees Abdelkader Benchamma, Noémie Goudal, and the duo Angela Detanico and Rafael Lain.
The award comes with a €35,000 grant and a two-year residency at the Sèvres – Manufacture et Musée Nationaux, a renowned ceramics museum in France. The Prix Marcel Duchamp exhibition will remain open to the public at the Pompidou Centre until January 6, 2025.
