PORT-AU-PRINCE, Sept 28 – The Cuban Embassy in Haiti celebrated the 64th anniversary of Cuba’s Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) on Saturday, reflecting on the organization’s historical role in promoting community unity and citizen involvement. The event highlighted the CDR’s continuing relevance in Cuban society, despite the country’s ongoing challenges.
Yasser Hernández, a member of the embassy’s protection and security team, spoke on behalf of the diplomatic staff, emphasizing that the CDR remains a symbol of unity and community commitment. “Even as our nation faces adversity, this anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the path we’ve traveled, with the CDR playing a key role in building the future we aspire to,” Hernández said.
Historical Role and Impact
Founded in 1960 by Cuban revolutionary leader Fidel Castro, the CDR was established to mobilize communities in support of the revolution and encourage citizen participation in social and security-related activities. Over the decades, the organization has been instrumental in fostering solidarity among neighbors and organizing cultural and sports activities across the country.
