The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has called for unity and collaboration between Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) President Leslie Voltaire and Prime Minister Garry Conille, expressing concern over public disagreements that threaten the country’s transitional goals. CARICOM’s statement emphasizes the importance of cohesion among Haiti’s leaders, stressing that discord between Voltaire and Conille jeopardizes the country’s stability and the international support it urgently needs.
The regional bloc noted that Haiti’s transition depends on the principles of compromise and consensus, which were central to the Political Agreement signed in Jamaica on March 11, 2024, and the April 3 accord developed by Haitian stakeholders. Both agreements were aimed at guiding Haiti toward a more stable political environment and setting the groundwork for elections by February 2026. CARICOM’s call highlights the immediate need for leaders to uphold these principles to serve the Haitian people effectively.
The timing of the dispute is particularly concerning, CARICOM stated, given Haiti’s deteriorating security situation and worsening humanitarian crisis. Public disagreements between the country’s transitional leadership, it argued, deepen the despair of a population already struggling with violence and economic instability. The regional organization warned that ongoing divisions could further delay critical international assistance and hamper Haiti’s capacity to manage the crisis.
