The Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC) is set to release its investigative report on the scandal involving the Banque Nationale de Crédit (BNC), which contains “compromising elements,” according to a well-informed source. The report is expected to be made public shortly, as confirmed by the source on September 28, 2024. However, the source did not confirm whether those implicated in the investigation would face legal action, stating only that the investigation uncovered significant findings.

The inquiry focused on the allegations raised and certain associated offenses. The source suggested that if the ULCC’s investigation revealed substantial evidence, it is likely that a judicial investigation could be recommended to further examine the case with greater legal authority.

The ULCC typically conducts criminal investigations, though it occasionally undertakes compliance reviews that may also lead to criminal charges. In this case, the findings are primarily of a criminal nature, according to the source, who also indicated that the release of the report is imminent.

The scandal came to light when Raoul Pierre-Louis, president of the BNC’s board of directors, accused three Presidential Council members—Louis Gerald Gilles, Smith Augustin, and Emmanuel Vertillaire—of soliciting money from him in exchange for maintaining his position. All three council members have strongly denied the allegations. Pierre-Louis was later dismissed from his position by Prime Minister Garry Conille. No confrontation between the parties involved has taken place.

The situation remains tense as the report is expected to be made public this Wednesday, October 7, 2024, potentially unveiling significant details about the alleged corruption involving the three members of the Presidential Council.
