A wave of high-profile artists and entertainers have endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in her bid for the 2024 U.S. presidential election, with singer-songwriter Marc Anthony and actor Dave Bautista among the latest to declare their support. These endorsements are part of a growing list of public figures using their platforms to rally voters around Harris’ campaign.
Marc Anthony’s support came through an ad titled Recuerdo (Spanish for “I remember”), in which he recalled the hardships faced by Puerto Ricans during Donald Trump’s first term. The ad highlights how the Trump administration responded to the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria, and Anthony criticized the former president for blocking aid and making disparaging comments about Puerto Rico. “This election goes beyond political parties,” Anthony emphasized, urging voters to remember the values of unity and decency.
Similarly, actor and former WWE star Dave Bautista voiced his support for Harris, using humor and sharp criticism of Trump in a parody ad aired on “Jimmy Kimmel Live.” In the segment, Bautista ridiculed Trump’s self-proclaimed toughness, calling him a “whiny little b—-” and mocking his physical appearance and behavior. The actor used the moment to encourage men to see through the former president’s macho image and vote for Harris.
In Case You Missed It:
Michaël Brun’s new single ‘Safe’ out, featuring John Legend and Rutshelle GuillaumeBautista, known for his roles in Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune, has been a vocal critic of Trump and regularly uses his platform to engage with political issues. Last month, he posted a video on Instagram wearing a Harris-Walz shirt, further signaling his support for the vice president.
These endorsements come amid Harris’ efforts to connect with a broad demographic of voters, especially minorities and younger generations. Polls, however, indicate that she still faces challenges among male voters, with a recent NPR/PBS/Marist poll showing 57% of male voters favoring Trump compared to 41% for Harris.
The Harris campaign has been strategically utilizing celebrity endorsements to amplify its message, focusing on key issues such as racial justice, climate change, and women’s rights. Other notable figures backing Harris include Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, George Clooney, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Billie Eilish.
With Election Day approaching on November 5, the Harris campaign is intensifying its efforts to mobilize voters through TV and digital ads, including during high-profile events like the Billboard Latin Music Awards.
